Gerald (Jerry) J. Hirsch
Age 85 of Edina, MN passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 9, 2018 after a weekend with family, face-timing great grandkids and his regularly scheduled Sunday night dinner full of laughter, a glass of wine and his favorite ice cream. Jerry is now happily reunited with his wife Suzanne (Sue), who preceded him in death.
After serving in the Korean War, Jerry married Sue in 1958, graduated from the University of St. Thomas and started his family of five children. Jerry began his career with IDS in the accounting department and shortly thereafter moved into IDS’s investment management business. In 1974, Jerry retired from IDS and followed his desire to be self-employed, applying his experience and financial background in the accounting, investment and commercial real estate areas. After establishing his business, he spent more time with family, traveled with Sue, enjoyed weekly golf with friends, fishing and a game or two of cribbage.
His family, friends and relationships were most important to him. Jerry’s kindness, cheerful smile, and caring for others will be remembered. He was a loving husband and a caring and giving father. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren feel so fortunate to have had him be an important part of their lives and they loved him very much.
Jerry is survived by his children: Mary (Dave) DeZellar, Greg (Mary), Stephen (Mai), David (Bonnie) and Kelly (Steve) Housh; his eleven grandchildren: Tyler, Cullen, Danielle, Lisa, Carla, Sheila, Campbell, Jerry, Matthew, Nicholas and Philip; five great grandchildren: Elliana, Odin, Livia, Mila and Maxwell; and his sister, Betty (Jerry) Hirtz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Grace Church, 5071 Eden Avenue, Edina, MN on Wednesday December 19, 2018, at 3:00 PM. Visitation one hour before the service. A reception and celebration of Jerry’s life will follow at Interlachen Country Club. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Our Lady of Peace, 2076 Saint Anthony Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55104.
